The National Security Council is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to saving the lives of people using research, by educating people, and by spreading awareness about any particular issue.
"Reaction times were around 35% slower when writing a text message[while driving]."(Reed & Robins, 2008) "Current data suggest that each year, at least 1.6 million traffic accidents (28% of all crashes) in the United States are caused by drivers talking on cell phones or texting."(Ship. 2012) "After declining from 1999 to 2005, fatalities from distracted driving increased 28% after 2005, rising from 4572 fatalities to 5870 in 2008."(Wilson, 2012)
As you can see from these numbers, texting and driving is a serious problem. The National Security council raises awareness about this particular issue by doing just that, raising awareness. They have created the Distracted Driving awareness month. They have gotten gotten thousands of people to sign a "no texting while driving" pledge. They have also partnered with companies getting them to enact "no texting and driving" policies. The National Security Council is doing whatever it takes to inform people of the dangers of texting and driving. http://www.nsc.org/safety_road/Distracted_Driving/Pages/distracted_driving.aspx
